Position Overview:
The Office of Special Investigations (OSI), a government agency, seeks an Attorney to provide legal counsel, investigative oversight, and litigation support in connection with sensitive and complex matters. The Attorney will ensure that investigations are comprehensive, legally sound, and consistent with OSI protocols, while also supporting the Administrative Trial Unit and other internal divisions. This role requires strong legal research and analytical skills, with a focus on administrative law, investigative processes, and compliance with governing regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Attorney will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Drafts investigative reports to ensure that:
Reviews investigative files to ensure all necessary documentation has been filed in accordance with OSI protocols.
Provides legal counsel to OSI Confidential Investigators.
Conducts comprehensive searches of the OSI database.
Assists, supports, and collaborates with the Administrative Trial Unit.
Handles document requests pursuant to subpoenas, FOIL, and discovery demands.
Confers with government agency subject matter specialists and technical experts on investigative and legal issues.
Conducts legal research and prepares legal briefs, memoranda, and opinions on administrative and regulatory issues.
Reviews and interprets complex, significant, and highly technical laws, rules, and regulations for proper application in investigations and proceedings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Admission to the New York State Bar
Demonstrated legal experience in investigations, administrative law, or government practice.
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Ability to manage a diverse caseload and collaborate with investigators, attorneys, and subject matter experts.
Compensation: $32.50 to $50.00 / hour
