Job Title: Attorney - Adult Protective Services Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (APS-LPCU)
Location: New York, NY - Hybrid
On Call Counsel is seeking an Attorney for a long-term contract role with a NYC government agency. This role is for the agency's Adult Protective Services Program (APS).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide litigation support and legal counseling to HRA’s Adult Protective Services Program (APS).
- Review referrals from APS for legal sufficiency in matters involving eviction stays, guardians ad litem appointments in Civil Court, and Article 81 guardianship proceedings in Supreme Court.
- Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents necessary to commence and adjudicate court proceedings.
- Represent APS in Civil and Supreme Court matters to protect the rights and interests of at-risk, mentally or physically impaired adults.
- Ensure compliance with applicable APS statutes, regulations, and court standards.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support litigation strategy and case resolution.
- Advise APS staff on legal issues related to client protection and service delivery.
- Coordinate with court personnel, guardians, and other stakeholders to safeguard vulnerable clients.
- Maintain detailed case records and documentation in accordance with agency and court requirements.
- Mitigate legal and regulatory risks to HRA by ensuring timely and effective representation in APS-related matters.
Compensation:
- $40/hour – 1 years of experience
- $52/hour – 1–3 years
- $56/hour – 3–7 years
- $58/hour – 7+ years
