Attorney

NYC-based non-profit organization is seeking Contract Attorneys for an ongoing remote opportunity supporting high-impact habeas and detention matters in New Jersey.

Details:
• $125/hour
• Ongoing contract anticipated to last 5+ months
• Part-time schedule: approximately 15–30 hours/week at the candidate’s discretion
• Fully remote aside from any required court appearances

Requirements:
• Admission to NY or NJ federal court required
• Habeas corpus experience required

Key Responsibilities:
• File and litigate habeas corpus petitions on behalf of clients detained out of state
• Conduct emergency legal research and draft filings under tight deadlines
• Interview and counsel clients and families with sensitivity to trauma and crisis
• Coordinate with local counsel, public defenders, and advocacy groups to gather supporting documentation
• Appear in court as needed
• Maintain detailed records of case activity and communications
