Description

Our client, a statewide business advocacy organization, is seeking a Environmental Attorney to represent its positions in the legislative and regulatory arena. This role focuses on product regulation, recycling, and housing policy and serves as both a lobbyist advancing the client’s interests and a strategic leader engaging legislators, legislative and executive branch staff, members, and the broader business community in support of the client’s advocacy objectives. The role also involves interaction with state and local agencies, media, and the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate legislative and regulatory proposals to assess potential impacts on businesses operating in California
  • Meet with legislators and legislative and executive branch staff to communicate the client’s positions on proposed legislation and regulations
  • Draft support and opposition letters to legislators, legislative committees, and regulatory agencies
  • Provide testimony at legislative and regulatory hearings on behalf of the client as needed
  • Identify, coordinate, and assist representatives from affected businesses to testify at hearings
  • Plan and support internal policy committee meetings and deliver presentations as required
  • Author articles and written materials for client publications
  • Respond to inquiries from members and external stakeholders regarding legislative and regulatory issues
  • Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries on applicable legislative and regulatory matters
  • Speak to stakeholder groups and external audiences on relevant policy issues

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Must be admitted to the California Bar
  • 5-8  years of experience working on recycling, product regulation, and housing policy issues
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with public speaking and stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Benefits and Pay

  • 100% of medical coverage paid by employer
  • Provide 8% contribution to 401K without the requirement of the employee to match.
  • Hybrid Schedule, MTW in-office with a 39 hour work week (close at 4:00pm on Fridays)
  • Observe all major holidays.
  • Pay is $195,000/annually direct hire placement
